Corona & Data Governance

The coronavirus is keeping quite a stir and appealing to us citizens but certainly also to the government. Various governments are working together to prevent infections and mitigate the effects of the virus. For this, insight is essential. Insight into infection numbers, ICU admissions, reports of complaints to GPs, deaths, test street visitors, infections in nursing homes and even sewage water measurements... Even now, after more than 8 months, it is still difficult to get a clear and real-time picture. One of the main reasons? It is incredibly complicated to create a qualitative overall picture from different and sometimes incomplete data sources. Data governance is also the foundation here.

Business steering and decision-making are more data-based than ever. Challenge 1 is to translate the right data into actionable information with reliable data quality. Data Governance is the framework by which an organisation can effectively manage its data and requires a combination of people, rules and procedures. It includes policies that define how an organisation manages this data and what roles and responsibilities are defined in relation to data governance. It ensures that data is up-to-date, complete, reliable and available in time to turn it into useful information for making the right decisions.

The value of data is increasing. After all, with good insight into data comes good insight into the reliability of suppliers, the purchase of products or services, the lead time of the ordering process, margins per customer and customer group, quality of the financial administration, et cetera. In fact, reliable data is so important these days that it is changing companies and entire industries significantly in a short period of time. And the data-driven organisations are proving to be real winners! However, more than 80% of the data within organisations is currently still (insufficiently) structured, which means that correct, complete and reliable analyses are often lacking. So a fine mission... Just get to work. Start small and move step by step towards better data quality, better reporting and successful steering. We are happy to think along with you.
